1999 Winner: House Additions/Alterations/Renovations $300,000 - $500,000

Winner (1999)
This 1940’s Colonial-style home in leafy Wahroonga underwent a total reconstruction which involved a complete layout change and the addition of sympathetically designed new structures.

Over the past 60 years the house has been subjected to many changes and additions. As none of these embodied the true style of the house, they were removed before the transformation work began. Similarly, the original layout was no longer appropriate for the everyday needs of a modern family so the entire layout was altered. At all times, however, thought was given to retaining the home’s original architectural features. In redesigning the layout, attention was also paid to the orientation of the home so that it could take full advantage of the northerly aspect.

The overall result is a home which embodies all the charm and style of its original era, while catering for the needs and desires of the ‘90s family. The picture of tranquillity completed by a large garden and spacious, uncluttered grounds.

Judges Comments
Over the years, this 1940s house had undergone a number of renovations which were unsympathetic to its original design. With this renovation project, the builder has stripped away the inappropriate features, leaving only the front façade.

The builder had a great deal of input into the design and has transformed the dwelling into a charming and comfortable home. This well-built house also takes advantage of the aspect and the lovely grounds, all of which was achieved at a very competitive price. Of note is a two-car garage which blends with the house via a covered walkway.

Testimonials

 Dear Tony, Thank you.
On behalf of my family, I wish to thank you for the excellent work you did in building our house. We are regularly interrupted by people knocking on the door requesting information about the finishes, the architect and the builder of the house.
This goes to show that the impact of your hands-on supervision and the quality of your work is recognised by others as well. Please do not hesitate to use us as a reference of a very happy customer in the future.
Yours sincerely,

 To Whom It May Concern:
I am pleased to recommend Akira Homes to potential customers.
Tony Kirillov from Akira Homes has been very professional and provided quality work for our Federation Style house.
The work entailed complete demolition of the back section and rebuilding it, and updating the older part of the house with each room having had to be refurbished with new floors, ceilings, new staircase and new bathrooms and kitchen. A pergola and pool fence enclosure is also part of the work in progress.
Sincerely,
Maria Maugeri

 To Whom It May Concern:
Over the period of the last 3 years, Tony Kirillov has carried out one renovation project for me and I am considering a second, very substantial one, at the below address.
I have found him to be honest and meticulous in his standards of workmanship. He also has a good feel for any heritage elements in a project needing that kind of consideration.
I have no hesitation in recommending him to you as a builder for a quality project.
Yours faithfully,
Maris

 To Whom It May Concern:
Tony Kirillov has carried out two building projects for me over the past four years, including my personal residence.
I have found him to be a quality builder, who adheres to what are now quite often regarded as “old fashioned” standards of pride in his workmanship.
I can recommend him wholeheartedly as a builder.
Yours faithfully,
Yanis

 To Whom It May Concern:
Anthony Kirillov carried out extensive renovation work at our home and we have been extremely pleased with his work. The work was completed on schedule and although a considerable amount of demolition was involved every effort was made to minimise disruption to the household.
The job was always left clean and tidy each evening, even after a late finish.
We were impressed with the quality of Tony’s work and with his attention to detail. The work of tradespeople brought in by him was of an equally high standard.
We found Tony friendly and easy to get on with and would unhesitatingly recommend him for any building job.

 To Whom It May Concern:
We purchased our present home at 22 Pogson Drive, Cherrybrook, just over six years ago, from the builder, Anthony Kirillov.
In addition to the factors of location, aspect and suitability for our needs, a key ingredient in our decision to purchase was the quality of the home.
Our preliminary inspections revealed a dwelling of excellent standard that had been well and carefully constructed. Over the last six years, our experience in the home has confirmed our expectations of durability and lasting quality. Visitors to our home often comment on the quality and the obvious care taken by the builder.
Anthony has also been our neighbour throughout our time here. He regularly enquires about the home and our satisfaction with it. Anthony is clearly proud, justifiably, of his work.
We are pleased to provide this reference for Anthony Kirillov as a builder of excellent homes and commend him to you.
Yours faithfully,
